George Miles
Banjo, Lead & Tenor Vocals

George lost interest in taking piano lessons around the age of twelve.  His parents asked, "Son, what instrument, if any, would you like to learn to play?"   For his 13th birthday, he received his selection - a five-string banjo!  One year later, George became a regular in 'Bluegrass Revue', the house band at Country's BBQ in Columbus, GA.

"I must have played the 'Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Banjo' album a thousand times, but when I walked up on the stage for the first time, I only knew three songs well - 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown', 'Reuben', and 'Cripple Creek'. However, thanks to God's blessings, I was a quick study and was soon able to hold my own with the rest of the band's repertoire."

After 20+ years of banjo picking, George's versatile banjo playing style helps set the pace in a band whether the songs call for unyielding drive, or slow sweet melodies.  He sings lead and high harmony vocal parts and has written several songs now performed regularly in Eastwind's live performances.

"Song writing is something I had never really expected to delve into even though I wrote my first instrumental song in 1989.  Based upon what I perceived the needs to be in the previous bands I was in, I have always enjoyed exploring and developing new ideas on the banjo.  I have only recently come to appreciate the challenge of writing lyrics and then combining them with a tune that matches the feeling I want to convey."

"Bluegrass is a wonderful music, and to perform it with the great group of friends and musicians who compose Eastwind is a true joy.  I thank God through the Lord Jesus Christ for blessing me with the talent to play the music; my parents for giving me my first banjo; my wife for understanding as I take time to practice/perform/record; and all of those who take the time to listen to our band.  We appreciate a listening audience and always give our best to do this music justice."
